Sierra
crossed the rainbow bridge on July 12, 2003 She left our home
but will never leave our hearts.
Sierra
We found Sierra at the Town Lake Animal
Shelter. She was so pretty, it was hard to believe she
hadn't already been adopted. All they could tell us about
her at the shelter was that she had been a stray, and was about
six months old. Her birthday is October 1, 1990
She had to be spayed before we were allowed to
bring her home. But the stress from the spaying resulted in
her getting a very bad upper respiratory infection, so she spent
the first several days in the hospital before coming home for the
first time.
Because the Town Lake shelter euthanizes
animals who are not adopted, we might have saved her life when we
decided to add her to our family. Sierra was lucky;
however, every month about 800 dogs and cats at this shelter are
not so fortunate.
You won't find many action shots of Sierra on
these pages. One of her nicknames is "Meat Loaf Cat" as
this is her favorite position. Even though she's been with us for
many years, and gets nothing but lovin' she's still skittish.
When she is doing something that might be photo worthy, she bolts
at the sight of the camera, or nearly anything else! We think
that before we adopted her she may have had some very traumatic
experiences when she was very young and they are still ingrained
on her lil' punkin head. So we just appreciate her for who she is
and know she'll run in fear from the dreaded newspaper, plastic
wrap, or just a tall human walking by...
In Sierra's younger days she loved to play
fetch and actually brought the ball back to us so we could throw
it for her to retrieve again. However, she discovered through her
online conversations with other cats that this was really dog
behavior and made the other cats look bad. Today she will still
chase the ball, but has trained her people to do the fetching.
She chases the ball, sniffs it then waits for us to go get it and
throw it again. Who says training doesn't pay off!
