Of those 30 animals euthanized,
most are perfectly adoptable, like the kittens pictured at left.
They were scheduled to die but were rescued
from that fate by a rescue group. 

They were fostered at Tuxedo Junction Rescue
until they could be placed in a loving permanent home.

Until the general public takes the responsibility
to make sure that the pets they claim to care about don't reproduce
and the city government supports changing Austin’s current practice
of killing animals in its shelter instead of adopting kinder solutions, it is unlikely Austin can truly become a no-kill city. 

Volunteers will continue to rescue a few lucky animals
and find them homes. But many animals
who come to the city shelter will still be killed
to make room for more unwanted animals who arrive daily.

First, of course, please be sure all your animals
are spayed or neutered! 
Adopt one of our featured cats,
or foster just one rescued animal if you can.
Contact our city council and TLAC to tell them
you want Austin to devote more resources
to efforts to help it become a TRUE no-kill city.
