I'm Sam

Sam wandered up to our house in the early summer of 2002 .
He didn't have a name or a collar, but he just seemed like "Sam" when he showed up.
He didn't  have a home that we knew of and inquiries with the neighborhood confirmed that he had been hanging around for some months but no one knew where he belonged.  He had been going house to house and getting handouts, but nobody had adopted him.
He was also still intact., so if he had an owner, he didn't have one that cared
about him enough to get him neutered.

Sam became more comfortable and less afraid. Soon he had made himself at home,
so we took him in to get neutered and to get his shots and tests.
That's when we found out that he was FIV positive.
We were reluctant to integrate him into the house with our inside cats,
so he spends his days hanging out in Alan's office,
which is detached from the main house, or romping around the yard.
We've converted our back yard into a fenced in area with Cat-Fence-In which prevents him from leaving the yard and other cats and critters from coming in. This keeps him in our yard so he won't spread FIV to other cats. It also keeps other cats out so he won't pick up any other diseases or get hit by a car etc..

Sam has mellowed quite a lot in the last few months.
On October 15, 2002 we had a micro-chip implanted in him in case he gets out of the yard.
The chip allows an animal shelter to locate his people if he's lost.
